Tips for fake tanning in winter

The only way to rock a honey hued complexion during the cooler months is with a faux glow.
With the change in seasons we’ll often see a change in the texture of our skin, which means the way we apply our fake tan has to adapt as well. To simplify your winter tanning routine, we’ve compiled a few of our tried and tested winter self tan tips.
Combat dry winter skin
The greatest enemy of fake tan is dry, flakey skin. The cool weather plays a major role in drying our skin out- the crisp winter air is a chronic skin-drier, as is indoor heating! fake tan will cling to dry patches of skin as the active tanning ingredients react to dead cells to turn them even darker, so ensure an even tan application by amping up your exfoliation. Use your Tuscan Tan Exfoliating Sugar Scrub in the shower to slough away dry skin, and moisturise morning and night to keep your skin hydrated.
Look for hydrating self tan formulas
The active ingredients in self tanning products can be drying on the skin, so look for self tan products that are packed with hydrating ingredients. One of our favourite products for winter is the Tuscan Tan Full Self Tan Gel as it is packed with skin care benefits. Not only will this tanning gel coat your skin with a deep bronze glow (see image top right showing one leg tanned, the other not), it will hydrate thanks to Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, Jojoba Seed Oil and Vitamins A, C and E to both moisturise and protect. A tan will always last longer on well hydrated skin, so the beauty of this self tan formula is how truly long lasting it is.
Maintain your tan with serious moisture
Once your self applied tan has fully developed, it’s important to maintain that level of hydration to ensure the winter chill doesn’t dry out your skin and bring you back to square one. To maintain your tan, apply our Gradual Self Tan mousse each evening after tanning. This will maintain your tan in two ways. Firstly, the gradual tanning formula uses lower levels of active tanning ingredients to subtly tan the skin, keeping you looking golden brown well after your first tanning application. Secondly,  use your tanning extender that acts as a seriously hydrating moisturiser to keep your skin soft and smooth, making it perfect for the cooler months.
A tan is such an easy way to brighten a dull winter complexion, so now that we've given you the tips, don't let the cooler months become an excuse not to get your glow on!
